Initial Letter
Going into this year I’m a little nervous but excited. This will be my first time ever having more than two teachers, which is nerve racking. I’m very excited to be learning a whole new language but also nervous. I feel this year will be stressful, exciting, and nerve racking. There will be new experiences, some good, some bad, but I will get through them like I have anything else. I’m excited to meet all the new teachers that the highschool offers and excited to build relationships with every single one. I am also looking forward to meeting all the students that will undoubtedly become close friends. I’m going to venture out and not just stay with the same old group, but be open to meeting new friends and gain new experiences. Football has also helped get me through the process of meeting new people as I've already made a lot of new friends because of leadership and football.
Core camp really helped me open up to new people. I even learned a couple of new things while I was there. It was a very eye opening experience to the concept of how many kids go to the school; it’s definitely different from grammar school. Leadership offered a whole new experience to highschool, just the thought of being able to help my community, school, and even friends was a deal for me. Core camp really helped me learn how to deal with stressful situations and help people deal with stress as well. This skill will really make me a stronger person and get me through highschool, having a good time. I would like to get not just leadership skills but ultimately become a better person, I’ve been told by multiple people that this program has helped them through not just highschool but life itself. I’m very excited to learn all the new skills that leadership offers. I feel this program will help me not just through school but life, this program will teach me skills that no other program at the highschool will. I think the program will get very stressful but also very fun. I’m excited to step out of my comfort zone and really show other kids that its okay to have fun in highschool. I’m looking forward to being able to help students in school and even just having a good time in highschool. I would like to get leadership skills and step out of my comfort zone to have a great time in highschool, thats my ultimate goal in highschool, to have a great time.

Section 2: Quotes
Quote#1.)”Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations.” Zig Ziglar.
It is so easy to focus on the negative that I often miss the beauty in the journey. I have to continually remind myself and remember that even if things don’t go the way I think they should go, there may be an unexpected ending after the difficult journey. One that I could never have imagined. It is about learning through the journey rather than focusing on all of the negative things along the way.
This personally spoke to me because often I get so down when things go awry that I focus on that and let those things cloud my experience, rather than experiencing the good and the bad and creating a new outcome.
Quote#2.)”Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is true strength.” Arnold Schwarzenegger.
As a society, we often connect strength and winning...they go hand in hand. If you are strong you WILL win. Perhaps that is true in the short term, but for the strong characters, strong leaders, it is the struggles that we learn from. When we get knocked down and back up, that is what creates true strength. That is what will stand the test of time.
This quote really resonated with me. With sports, I am often the smallest. I have been knocked down many times, both literally and figuratively. I pull myself up every time, dust myself off and try to figure out how to adapt and fight to prove myself, to make myself proud. I know that, at the end of the day, I will have left nothing behind. I learn something every time I get knocked down or told that I can’t do something.
Quote#3.)”You are the artist of your own life. Don’t give your paint brush to anyone else.” Iva Ursano.
A lot of the society around is driven by leaders, that’s who we hear about. But behind those leaders is a whole bunch of followers, people too scared to make their own path. They decide to get limped to the finish line. These people will do nothing with their life. They think that doing this will benefit them in the long run, but in reality they are losing precious life.
This quote directly relates to me because I used to be that person, the person who followed. I hung around with the wrong group of people and ended up somewhere I didn’t belong. I fixed this problem and have been recovering ever since. The leadership program has helped significantly in this hardship. I will never give up my “paint brush” to anyone ever again.

Section 3:Quote
"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure." Colin Powell. I think this quote describes all of what we do in leadership. As a freshman I have to learn a lot from my mistakes. I have really prospered from all the hard work I put into the program and all the preparation I do before the actual events that we put on. The program takes a lot of hard work and I'm very excited to be able to do this next year.
Section 4: Goals
One leadership goal I have would be promoting the program as much as possible. This would dramatically change the program if we had the whole school backing, everyone helping out. This would build our school up and really show how much spirit, how much leadership this school really has. Another goal I would have in leadership would be trying to make the class connect with the student body as much as possible. If that’s having connection weeks or something like that, or even going around and asking how people are doing. I think it would really get people on board to show their spirit. One short term goal that I have would be staying positive through Homecoming. I have heard from a lot of sources that Homecoming gets very stressful and I want to keep a positive attitude going through it. One more short term goal would be to work hard and start playing football. I have been building relationships with my team and coaches. I feel doing this will benefit me in the long run. I’ve been working very hard to achieve this goal and I’m getting close. Long term goal, building relationships with most if not all of my teachers. If I accomplish this I will have a fun and not overwhelming year. It will get stressful at times but if I have strong relationships with my teacher it will help. My last long term goal would be keeping a healthy lifestyle during the stress of highschool. This will help my mental and physical lifestyle. Getting enough sleep, eating enough will contribute to this. I think all these goals will make me the best version of myself and make others the best versions of them.
Section 5:Goals |
"This year I would like to keep my grade while being an athlete." I have done a very good job at this, I have never let my grades get under a 3.5 GPA and I'm very proud that I was able to keep my word.
"I would like to keep time for my family and for myself." I haven't done as good of a job as I would like to at this goal. I have kept a lot of time for my family and I'm thankful for that. I love spending time with my family and they are always there for me. But I haven't given time to myself, my mental health went down a lot and I stopped eating but my family got me out of it and I'm giving myself more time and making sure my mental health is good. "To get to know all my classes and teachers." I'm very glad I was able to accomplish this goal. My teachers are all very cool and very nice. They all want to best from me and I'm so happy that they are good teachers. I'm comfortable in my classes and feel confident enough to speak out in my classes. "To create new friendships." I'm so glad that I was able to make new friendships. I made a new best friend this year. I have him in 4 classes so I'm glad I get along with him. Him and I are very similar and we both have a good time when we are together. I'm so glad that high school has brought me so many friendships and I'm really enjoying high school. "To keep my morals and never forget them." I haven't forgoten all the things my mom thought me. She was very clear and made sure I don't be disrespectful or mean to anyone ever. I have been very nice to all my teachers and it payed off and they have helped me in the long run. She was a very good mother and I'm very glad she's my mom. "To remain close to my friends and family." I haven't kept all my friends because some of them have gotten into the wrong things. I'm glad I was able to recognize that they were not really my friends and they didn't believe the same things I did. But I have stayed close to my family and they have helped me with everything and I'm very glad to have them in my life. |

Section 7:People magazine article
Making an impact on the world and making it a better place is Nathan Curless’s goal. To achieve this, he plans on impacting children’s lives by becoming a teacher. His desire is to not only teach the students curriculum but build relationships with the students on not just a professional level but also on a personal one.
When asked why teaching, Nathan stated simply, “Teaching is not just about school. I can prepare them educationally. However, being in that position, I could also have the opportunity to help mold them into a better person. Help them see different perspectives, help them think outside of their box. In turn, this would help our community, and the world.”
It is clear that Nathan understands how important and impactful the teaching profession is. He understands the role a teacher plays in each of the students’ lives. Role model, leader, educator, counselor, cheerleader, and sometimes parents. He goes on to say, I want to make a home for all of my students, one where they feel comfortable talking to me about their feelings, worries, and dreams. I want to create an environment where I make learning fun and real for the students. I want to reach the unreachable students, inspire the overachievers, and drive home the love of learning within a safe environment.” Nathan Curless, we need more teachers like you!
Nathan hopes to attain his degree in mathematics. His desire is to attend a four year college and then move on to a credential program where he can earn his credential. He plans on teaching math to middle school or high school aged students. This is the age where students need that role model the most. In addition to teaching, he would also love to spread his passion for learning onto the field. He would love to coach football. When asked why, “Football separates the men from the boys, not just on a physical level. The sport creates brotherhood that many of the boys don’t experience on their own. It develops skills that are not just related to the sport. It changed my life and I want to provide that same experience to others.”
It is clear that Nathan Curless will be a positive addition to the teaching profession.

Section 8:Role Model |
Through out life I have had a lot of people influence my life. The one person that stands out the most is my mom. She has always been there for me and pushed me in stressful situations. I would not be in the position I am in now without her. She has thought me everything I know from manners to athletics. She has given the world to me and I don't think I'll ever be able to re pay her. I strive for the hard work and dedication that she has. This is the most inspirational person I know. She has helped many other people as well. She teaches them basic life skills and give them an education. She has inspired so many people. I hope one day I get to do be as inspirational as her.
Section 9:Inner Animal
I think I'm represented as a dog. I think I'm a dog because I have a laid back attitude and get very excited and work hard for my goals. I stick to my goals and use my attributes to help. These would be like commands for a dog. I'm stick to my goals and stick to my morals. A dog is very loyal and stay with there owners. I also put a lot of trust in people like dogs do. I have a lot of energy in certain situations and in other's I don't have very much energy. Dogs are always there for you when you need them, I'm always there for family and friends. If they need a break I'm there. If they need someone to talk to I'm there. I'm very loyal to the people I trust.
Section 10:Best things about me
I think the best trait about myself is being able to handle my three lives, Academics, Sports, and Family. I get to enjoy all of them. Sports has really shown me my leadership and my collaboration skills. My academics help me with being able to focus on one thing and sticking to it. My family has shown me that I don't have to do every thing and can rely on my family and friends. The people I put myself around help me a lot. They push me every single moment of the day, rather that's sports or academics. My family has been there since day number one and I wouldn't be where I am today without them, sports have pushed me to be the best version of myself, and academics push me to be able to balance my lives while still getting all my work done. I believe that relying on and learning from different aspects have helped me become the best version of myself.
Section 11: A Song to Represent Me
Home by Phillip Phillips
Hold on to me as we go As we roll down this unfamiliar road And although this wave (wave) is stringing us along Just know you're not alone 'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home Settle down, it'll all be clear Don't pay no mind to the demons They fill you with fear The trouble, it might drag you down If you get lost, you can always be found Just know you're not alone 'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Ah-ah-ah-ah Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Ah-ah-ah-ah Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Settle down, it'll all be clear Don't pay no mind to the demons They fill you with fear The trouble, it might drag you down If you get lost, you can always be found Just know you're not alone 'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Ah-ah-ah-ah Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah Ah-ah-ah-ah Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah |
The song I chose was Home by Phillip Phillips. This artist has had many songs that really help me get through the rough days of my life. This song describes me to a point. I will always come back. I'm a very loyal person and put a lot of trust into the people I trust. I always know where home is and I will always have a place in my heart for my home, friends, and parents. This song has been with my since the day I was born. I've always remember this song and it's in my heart. I try to go by the lyrics of this song every day. This song has taught me how to be a good person. How to get through life and shrug things off. To be determined and get the things I want. This song has inspired me and many other's like me.

Section 14:What I like about being a member of Leadership
There have been many amazing moments in the 2021-2022 Leadership year. My favorite moment is riding down Main Street on the float and waving to the kids. Seeing all their smiles made it worth all the time we put into the float. Another moment is getting a kid in need of a toy for Christmas. I was so excited to be able to put this toy in the box to be shipped off to kids. My final favorite moment is the Secret Santa gift exchange. I was so nervous to give my gift but she loved what I got her. This Leadership year has been amazing and can’t wait to see what happens next.
Section 15:A reflection of a peer in Leadership
Dillan Saltmans is the hardest worker I’ve ever met. He gets nowhere close to the recognition he deserves. There are many stories I can talk about for Dillan, he always asks us Freshman if we need help or if we understand what Morty asked of us. When we were decorating doors and we had to do some doors over he was the first person I saw go to work. He is a great person and even a better Leader. He deserves so much recognition.

Section 16: RHS Pride Photo Gallery
Section 18:What I love to do
One of my favorite things to do is practice and play sports. I love the competitiveness of all the sports I play. It really helps me in high stress situations and things I may face in my life. I also love the memories I gain in playing all the sports I play. All the teammates the turn into life long friendships. It really helps me cope with all the other things that happen throughout the day or week. Sports have really helped me in life. It has taught me a lot of morals and how to be a gentlemen. I owe a lot of what I have to sports because I wouldn't be where I am today without them.
Section 19:Letter to Parents
My mom has been the most influential person in my life. She is always there for me no matter what. She will do anything for me, she will stay late doing homework for me or help me with real life problems. She has been there since day one and she will be there for me until the end. I'm so glad that she is my mom and that she loves me so much. I was so blessed to have her as my mom. My dad, he is always there for me, if that's giving me pointers on sports or how to shave. He is always there when he can be and he tries his best to be as influential as he can. I love both of my parents so much and I certainly got blessed.
Section 20:General Advice
Going into Freshman Year is a whole new ball game with a ton more responsibility. You have to grow up fast with little guidance. You have to experiment with a lot of different things. I'm so glad I had my mentor this year because without him I'm not sure what I would do. My first piece of advice would have to be making relationships with everyone in the class. Making connections will really help in the short run and long run. This will the class and year so much more fun and enjoyable. Second piece of advice is do not procrastinate. Procrastination will really screw you over. This is one of the hardest things for me to overcome. When I came into Freshman Year I start and didn't start assignments until the night it's due. I would lose a lot of sleep and some times not finish assignments. Third piece of advice is to stay strong all year. When I started the year I was staying up in all my classes and had a 4.0 with ease. Right after the first semester ended I started to run out of gas and my grades dropped. I had to just keep on pushing and now I back up to a 3.8. Try as hard as you can in school because these grades actually matter and don't blow off school because it will hurt you in the long run. High School is a lot more stressful than Grammar School is. You can't look at the overall grade but the little assignments because will add up. In High School you will figure out who your real friends are and don't be afraid to make new friendships. These people will be with you for the next 4 years so make them good. And my last point is high school goes by very quickly so cherish every moment.
Section 21:Do's and Don'ts
Do's
-Something that you should definitely do is make relationships with the people in the class. These bonds will help you in the class and outside of the class -Make sure you have a planner, because without one you will be very stressed out and you will forget about a lot of things. This will help you in all classes -Make sure your mental health is good, because without good mental health your not going to accomplish much |
Don'ts
-Do not procrastinate, this will ruin you. It will put you behind in all your classes and all the work will pile up and eventually give you more -Do not run out of gas, stay strong all year, stay attentive in all your classes and make sure you are attentive in those classes. -Don't overthink situations in the program, you will be put in many high stress situations and just go with it and don't overthink it |

Section 24: The Professional
Something that we have covered pretty heavily this year is knowing the material you are having to present or talk about. If you know the material without having to look at it or stutter or anything like that you will pull in a bigger audience. You don't want to get up on stage and have to have your back turned the whole time. You will sound smarter and more knowledgeable on the said topic. Also you need to dress professionally as well. If you dress and look professional then you'll look more qualified for the position. You would not want to show up to an interview in sweats and a t-shirt. You wouldn't look qualified for the position.
Section 25: Change
My first year as a student leader was filled with many new things for me. Having to be professional was something completely new for me. I was able to pick things up pretty quickly and I'm finally getting the hang of things. In leadership you learn a lot of life skills, and it really help not just with professionalism but also life. I'm very excited to be able to be apart of this program. Throughout the year I have faced a lot of frustration and anger but have been able to rely on my leadership team to help me through it. I remember when we were first starting out float for homecoming a lot of out class member were not showing up. This made me very frustrated because we were putting in so much work while these other people were just sitting at home. It made me super frustrated and made me want to quit. My leadership team pushed me through it and then later we had a talk with everyone about commitment. This really helped and didn't escalate anything. I've learned how to not escalate things as well as one of the skills I picked up. We had a pretty big problem when we were decorating doors for Christmas. One of our groups didn't put 100% effort in and it showed. This caused us to have to redo those doors. This caused us to stay an extra hour fixing these doors. This showed me that when one of fail we all fail. We are a family and we need to stay sound. To help each other up and not get mad but help and love. One change I would like to see is a little bit more instruction for the projects that we do. We have been put in the dark many times on projects that most of us haven't ever seen. We asked and didn't get much clarified but then our upperclassmen helped us out. This caused us a lot of stress because we were left in the dark for a while, this builds character though. I would just like to see more clarification of some projects in the future. Something positive that I have enjoyed all year was my mentor. He is always so helpful and even though he missed out last year because of Covid, he still tries his best to help me out. He is always answering my questions and then makes sure I'm okay before he starts his work.
Section 26:The Ideal Leader
I think the ideal leader is someone that is out going and has a good time but also gets all of their work done. I think this person should be very responsible and reliable and be able to get the job done. I think this person should be very open minded and listen to others with full attention. I believe this person should be well spoken and very smart. This person should enjoy every moment of life and be able to tackle whatever life throws at you. They should have a kind smile and be able to talk to and have a great personality. This is my representation of a great leader.
Section 27:You
Goofy
Section 28:My Project
|
For every single event that your class or position puts on you are required to do a procedure form. This form is a very long and extensive form and it basically describes what happened at the event and how the event went. In this packet you will need a signature from multiple different people. Including the ASB president, the AD, the Bookkeeper. This will keep you very on top of things.
In a school year we go by semesters. But in leadership we have an evaluation on how we are doing. We have one of these every quarter. This is just letting you know how well you are filling your job description and how you participate in class. These are just an eye opener for what you have accomplished and well you did it.
In leadership you put on a ton of events for the student body. We always have decorations for those events and we have to buy them from somewhere. Every time we want to get something we have to put in a Purchase Order. We have to turn this into our Bookkeeper and they make sure we have sufficient funds to be able to buy it. Then we get the order in and we get our decorations.
In leadership we spend a lot of money to put on events and we get all that money from fundraising and you will have a class budget our's is $3,833.39
Typically every month we like to have an ASB meeting to let everyone know what has happened in the last month. These meeting we all come dressed professionally and make it like an actual meeting. You will have a presenter for you class to let everyone know what we did and it gives everyone a heads up on what's going on.
Every time we have a meeting we have to take minutes. These are just what we went over and how long it took and what we ended up accomplishing.
To get money for out class we need people to show up to our events. We do this through publicity. We have electronic posts and posters that we put up. These really help us with participation. They boost our class budget astronomically.
