Chapter 21
Imagine yourself at your own funeral. This excerpt is talking about not taking life for granted. To not leave things unfinished. To not let things of the past red on yourself. This is directly involved to me because I have let things of the past get to me and it really shows your true character. You have to live every moment of your life to the fullest. "Don't get upset in the situation your in because some people are wishing they could be in that situation."
Chapter 22
Repeat to yourself,"life isn't an Emergency." Nothing in life needs to be rushed. Take your time in life, you only get one. Life life to the fullest but also live it smart. You might not get this opportunity again so live up to it. You only get one life so don't be afraid to risk it for an adrenaline rush. You can't live in the shadows and in fear. You have to live life to the fullest.
Chapter 23
"Experiment with your back burner." In life you get a lot of stress and anxiety put on you from the world. This means your back burner has to take a lot of heat sometimes. Your back burner does not have to be in your head but it can be a friend, parent, and even sibling. My back burner has been big during high stress situations. Sometimes my back burner turns off and I have a mental breakdown. This is normal for every human. Don't underestimate your back burner, it takes a lot of stress away from your life.
Chapter 24
"Spend a moment everyday thinking of someone to thank." A lot of people go through life and don't live it up. They go through and don't have fun. They don't charish anything and aren't thankful for anything. When going through life you have to think back to how you got there. What made you do what you do. What people influenced you. You should be thankful for these people.
Chapter 25
"Smile at strangers, look into their eyes and say hello." People really take offense to people who don't pay attention to you. Even looking into someones eyes and saying hello or even listening can brighten someones day. Eye contact can make a person switch moods. It can invite a person into a long line of memories. Those memories can last a life time. Just remember when you walk around town if you smile and wave at them can make there day.
Chapter 26
"Set aside quiet time, every day." The days can get very tiring and stressful. Some days you will just snap, that snap will ruin friendships and those friendships get you through life. Every single day you need to set aside ten minutes to just breathe and settle down. To find your inner peace. In order to have a healthy relationship with the people closest to you you have to have good mental health.
Chapter 27
"Imagine the people in your life as tiny infants and one-hundred-year-old adults." In order to live life you have to realize that not everyone is the same. You have to stand out and have fun with your life. Don't live under other people's standards. Stand out and step out of your comfort zone once in a while. You can't relate with everyone in all ways. But you can find a topic to talk about.
Chapter 28
"Seek First to Understand."Describe a situation where you didn't seek first. Was there resolution with this conflict? I was angry at my mom one day because she was scheduling my dentist appointment. Turns out that I had an interview that day. I turned and snapped and got extremely frustrated and mad. And then I realized that she had made a mistake and that I didn't tell her about my interview. I then realized I didn't seek out and figure out it was my fault.
Chapter 29
"Become a Better Listener." Who is someone that you can genuinely talk to, that you know will listen to you, Describe this relationship? Someone I can always talk to is my grandma. She always has the best advice and gets me through a lot. She always listens, no matter what. She might not even understand what I'm talking about but she will give her insight. I always feel safe when talking to her and she makes me feel loved.
Chapter 30
"Choose Your Battles Wisely." Describe a time when you lost your SHHHHH an in reality it wasn't worth the energy. How did you feel after the confrontation"Could it have gone defferently if you didn't sweat the small stuff. One time I was arguing with my brother on how to pronounce data. He said it one way and I said it that other way. We argued for like 20 minutes. I was so exhausted when it was over that I just was mentally tired. I gave it my all and was it worth it. No because I ruined my whole day because it burned the bridge with my brother for the next couple of hours.
Chapter 31
"Become Aware of Your Moods and Don't Allow Yourself to be Fooled by the Low Ones." Explain a time when you were in a bad mood and how it shaped your day. Vise Versa, explain a time when you were in a great mood and discuss that day you had. I have had many bad days, I once even had a bad week. I was playing very good in basketball so that affected my mood and I didn't have great relationships with my friends and family. This made it even worse. I also have had many good days. When I have these my day is a lot better and I seem to get along better with the people around me.
Chapter 32
"As an experiment, see if you can apply this idea to something you are forced to deal with right now. Explain your emotions and logic behind this situation. Can you rise above it." I have had to be in many situations where I have had to be very professional. Where jokes are nonexistent and everything is serious. I have also been in many situations where I can be goofy and have a good time. I think this chapter is talking about not taking life to serious and enjoying every single second because it's not guaranteed.
Chapter 33
"You will not please everyone...how does this statement sit with you and why do we tend to focus on the negative rather than the positive."
Chapter 34
"Describe a time when you complete RAK and how did it make you feel." I have given a lot of random acts of kindness and it makes my soul feel happy. When I think of this I think back to one memory, when I was waiting in line at Save mart. This lady was in front of me and she had a young child. This child was wanting a candy bar but the mom couldn't afford it. I grabbed the candy after they left and bought it. I then ran it out to there car and gave it to the kid. The kid's smile was payment enough and it just made me feel happy.
Chapter 35-Look Beyond Behavior
"In your own words, describe the meaning of Loving-Kindness." I think that Loving-Kindness is giving everyone the same amount of attention, or happiness. Just try to make them feel like they have your full attention and you really care about what they are saying to you. Just try to make people happy. You also need to interpret what a person is going though and give them a little leniency.
Chapter 36-See the Innocence
"What occurs when we practice compassion toward others and let go of "their" story, rather than be caught up in the drama of it." In life you need to see the innocence in people. You can't focus on what's wrong with other people but what's wrong with yourself. You have to see what that person is either dealing with or they just don't understand. But there is a major flaw, you can't just overlook something if it's a big problem. If someone is actually making you feel uncomfortable or something around there you need to talk to them. But you can also just take a minute to yourself and take a breathe.
Chapter 37-Choose Being Kind over being Right
"Define equanimity. Do you practice this in your life?"To me this chapter is talking about keeping calm in stressful situations and keeping your head on straight. Because if you're in a stressful situation then your sense of being right, might not be right. But you will be so hot headed that it won’t matter. You need to keep calm, this is easier said than done. But if you react when you're all worked up then your delivery will not be what you want it to be. You need to really think about everything before you react.
Chapter 38-Tell 3 People(today)How much You Love Them
In picking 3 people, who would you choose and why them?" If I was having to choose 3 people, I would have trouble choosing them. I would have to choose my mom, my girlfriend, and the boys. I would obviously choose my mom, because she has been my number 1 supporter through my entire life and has never left my side. I would also pick my girlfriend because she makes me so happy and without her, I wouldn’t be where I am mentally in life. And I would pick the boys because they bring me so many lives and they are my ride or dies. They are going to be by my side until we can’t be.
Chapter 39-Practice Humility
"Describe a time when you saw an individual or group lack humility. How did that make you feel about the group/individual?" I have very happy for many people in many different situations. But you also have to realize the difference between showing humility and bragging. There have been many times where I had t excuse myself because people were just talking so highly of themselves that I couldn't handle it. It was a very awful situation.
Chapter 40-When in doubt about who takes out the trash, just take it out.
"What is your perspective/ opinion of this article? Valid, or a waste of time" I think this is talking about taking initiative and trying to make others lives earlier. But also you have to realize how far you are going, don't let people walk all over you. You can't get taken advantage of. You also can't be a jerk about it. It's a very fine line and if you fall on one other side of the line. You can become immune to helping people but you can't get walked all over.
Chapter 41-Avoid Weatherproofing
"Do you weatherproof? Explain." I don't think I weatherproof. I think I tell people whats up and I don't sugar proof anything. I believe everyone should be straight up with everyone and not be a fake person. Now some situations call for you to not tell the full truth to protect people and keep them from lashing out. But those are sometimes rare to come across and I believe that people need to see the difference between both. It's a very fine line.
Chapter 42-Spend a Moment, Everyday, Thinking of Someone to Love
"Who do you choose to send love to in the moment." Someone that I would chose to send love to in the moment in my grandma. She is always willing to help me, even is she doesn't have the energy to. She has so much to deal with everyday but she still seems to be there for me when I need her most. She is one of the few people that push me to my limits and I wouldn't change that for the world. She has had such a big impact on me and I love her with my whole heart.
Chapter 43-Become an Anthropologist
"Reflect on the following: "judging others takes a great deal of energy and, without exception, pulls you away from where you want to be." I think this is talking about how hanging around with the wrong group of people will turn you into a different person. You have to find friends that believe in the same things as you do. You can't focus on who's popular and honestly just find out who's the best for you. Find the people who you enjoy to be around and let them influence you. That will be the best thing for you.
Chapter 44-Understand different Realities
"Why is it important to see the differences amongst one another in our small intimate circle to cultures around the world?" I think it's important because you need to stay involved in the world and not get wrapped up in your own ego. You really need to stay with the world because if you don't you will be very unintelligent, and you won't be able to talk with other people as much. Staying involved is very important to make sure you know what's happening worldwide.
Chapter 45-Develop Your Own Helping Rituals
"What are some ways that can help the spread of kindness towards others." I think some ways that we can help spread kindness is just lifting others up when they are in times of difficulty. It doesn't even need to be something big, it can just be a compliment about what there wearing or even about there personality. As for what we are doing right now, we are making hearts for the student body. It will help spread love and kindness.
Chapter 46-Everyday, tell at least one person something you like, admire or Appreciate about them
"Give someone a compliment via text message or DM. Who did you choose and how did it make you feel to support someone." Everyday I try to wake up and keep a positive attitude and keep a positive attitude all day. Every morning I give someone in my life a compliment. Even the simplest of gestures can completely change someones attitude on there day. So I would encourage everyone the mission of giving someone a compliment.
Chapter 47-Argue for your limitations, and they're yours
"Discuss a time where you had self doubt and set limitations on yourself. How did you or how can you change this behavior?" Many people currently suffer from the feeling of self doubt or critique themselves everyday. I have tried to keep myself away from this point of life but my inner self always seems to come back to this. So some advice I have is to set wild goals and strive everyday to reach those goals.
